Ford F-150 Lightning vs Tesla Cyber Truck

Ford F-150 Lightning vs Tesla Cyber Truck

Vehicle manufacturers are delivering more and more hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric vehicles to combat the pollution that is put off by cars with internal combustion engines. As the technology becomes more refined, it is being inserted not only into just small sedans and SUVs but larger and larger vehicles. Prior to 2021, no vehicle manufacturer had undertaken the creation of a fully electric pickup truck. However, two top brands are releasing new models in early 2022--Tesla's Cybertruck and Ford's F-150 Lightning.

Practicality

Let's be honest--the Tesla Cybertruck is unlike anything else that drivers will see on the road. However, that does not mean that it is the best electric truck out there. Both the Cybertruck and the F-150 Lightning can tow and haul extremely large amounts of weight. However, the Cybertruck is more of a statement than an actual workhorse vehicle.

The Lightning is the only option that provides additional storage space as well. As a big truck, the F-150 Lightning offers plenty of space. Of course, there is the 5.5-foot bed, but there is also a 400-litre front trunk, affectionately called the 'Mega Power Frunk.' There is also a lot of room for five passengers thanks to the crew cab design. In the Cybertruck, there is no escaping from the hard angular roofline, which cuts into the truck's headroom.

Price

The Ford F-150 Lightning handily beats Tesla on price. Both the standard- and extended-range models of the Lightning come in over $10,000 less than a comparably equipped Tesla Cybertruck. Ford also offers three different trim levels for the Lightning, allowing for customisation that Tesla does not offer its drivers. The Lightning is available in XLT, Lariat, and Limited trim levels with different exterior looks and interior technology features across the models.

History

There is a lot to be said about knowing how a pickup truck works and knowing what pickup truck drivers want from their truck. Ford has that history and popularity behind the F-150 Lightning. Ford has been the best-selling car brand in Canada for over a decade, and its F-Series pickup trucks have also been at the top of the best-selling board. Despite limited availability due to the pandemic, the F-150 continues to outsell all other vehicles in Canada.

This popularity as a truck manufacturer gives Ford another leg up over the Tesla Cybertruck. While known for its electric vehicle technology, Tesla is not known for pickup trucks. While it is an interesting and forward-thinking design, the Cybertruck does not hold up when under pressure. If its supposedly unbreakable windows can crack, what else might not live up to expectations?

The first F-150 EV, the Lightning does not look or work in a drastically different manner than its gas-powered counterparts. However, the under-the-hood technology is ahead of its time. Combined with a better price, better capability, and Ford's history as a proven pickup truck manufacturer, this makes the Ford F-150 Lightning a better choice for drivers wanting a capable and electric pickup truck.
